18/9/2013 1 Comment Rally TrainingWent to Rally last night and Katy's dog Digger a large GSD who she rescued and had up till now not accepted any dog working near to him has decided that Cinders is his best Buddy, so we sat near him during the session and though noisy he seemed better and Cinders just ignored all his antics. We got there only to find the room we expected to be in had been changed and we were in a very room with a lot of echo. We started with just doing heel work and left and right turns and then moved onto a mini course which we were allowed to walk through and then do a practice run. We were then asked to do it again and this time we were videoed and this will be used to help us see what we are doing wrong. Our final activity was to practice the stand and walk around. We stood our dogs in front of the chair on which we put a small pool of treats. We give the stand command and then give a treat. We then do the same and take a step away and give a treat from the chair. We quickly moved to standing behind the chair but in front of the dog and giving a treat from there to being able to treat at the stand command and to walk all the way round the chair and dog and then treat at the end. Cinders focus was totally on the treats on the chair that she wasn't bothered what i was doing.
I then did this with the down command with just having the pile of treats in front of her on the floor. started the same way and very quickly was able to walk round Cinders (something we had been struggling with) so the last time we did it i allowed her to have the full pot of treats on the floor. Have to say i was dead chuffed after this session.
